Hyphenated:
The use of
hyphenated words to designate foreign-born
citizens.
What is wrong with just being
American? According to the meaning of this, it is being used
wrong in most cases anyway.
It is time to take Hypen out of
American. If you are an American then you are an
American. If you want to be treated the same then stop using
hyphenated words that points out you are different.
So according to Webster's
Dictionary, unless you are a foreigh born citizen you are using it
the wrong way anyway.
We hear it so often, people are
complaining that they are being treated differently and they only
want to be treated the same as everyone else. Yet these same
people jump at every opportunity to use the hypen American
tag.
If you really want to be treated
the same as everyone else then stop doing things or calling yourself
something to separate yourself from others. Who might we be
talking about here.?
German-American,
Polish-American, Irish-American, Asian-American,
Italian-American, Arab-American, Latio-American,
African-American, Hispanic-American, Dutch-American, and
any other country that a person may be from by their bloodlines, but
born here.
The point is, if you was
born here you are an American. It doesn't make any difference
where your parents or grandparents or great-grandparents or
great-great-grandparents or great-great-great-grandparents are
from. Who separates themselves the most by using hyphen
American? I say it is black Americans more then any other
group. According to the dictionary it is being used
incorrectly in most cases anyway.
It is time to get rid of the
hyphen, no matter what group you are with and call yourself what you
are. An American. That is the first step in not being
thought of as different. When you come down to it we are all
the same anyway. We have the same dreams and want the same
things for our children and loved ones. We are all human
beings first and Americans second. Let's save the hyphen to
the foreign born IF they choose to use it.
This is the greatest country on
this earth. Anyone that has been born here is very
lucky. If you don't think it is such a great country then
travel out of it a little and see where you would rather
be.
